Peninsula offers before- and after-school care, in addition to full-time summer care, for school-age children at Boise Eliot and Sabin Elementary Schools. We provide transportation between our Boise Eliot Elementary School site and several other North Portland elementary schools: Beech, Chief Joseph, Ockley Green and Clarendon-Portsmouth. 

Our Boise Eliot Site Director Francine Alexander has been with Peninsula since August 1980, and our Sabin Site Director Sharon Goldsby started in July 1990. Both have been certified as a Child Development Associate (CDA). Our Site Directors develop the classroom curriculum under the guidance of Executive Director Deborah Murray, MA, Early Childhood Education.

Peninsula’s on-site classrooms provide a comfortable place where children can prepare for their school day – and unwind when the school day is over. Since school-age children spend the day in structured learning, our job is to help them extend learning into the before- and after-school hours by providing fun and creative opportunities for exploration and development. Children are encouraged to pursue their own interests, and our curriculum addresses topics that the children are curious about. We continue to work on developing the life skills and attitudes that children need to succeed as individuals and as social beings – positive work habits toward homework, self-control, respect for others, curiosity, exploration & problem-solving, and literacy.

Our full-time summer program features all of the elements of our before- and after-school program, plus additional opportunities for education and outdoor play. We put on plays, ride bikes to neighborhood parks, and take field trips to OMSI, Oaks Park, Rainbow Trout Farm – and more!
