Early Education

At Peninsula Children’s Center, helping each child in our community develop to his/her fullest potential is our first priority. Our commitment to a quality program for each child in our community, regardless of family background and income, is represented by our pursuit of accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the gold standard in early childhood education.

We believe every child needs and deserves a safe, secure, and stimulating environment, which begins with a positive, nurturing relationship between your child and his/her teacher. Each of Peninsula’s classrooms is led by a teacher who has been certified as a Child Development Associate (CDA) and/or has a relevant degree. The Head Teacher develops the classroom curriculum under the guidance of Director of Education Sue Stauber, MA, Early Childhood Education. The teachers are supported in the classrooms by Early Childhood Mental Health Specialists from Morrison Child & Family Services.

Our definition of quality child care and education includes communicating and working with the family through education, support and parent involvement. Our full-time Family Advocate meets with each family upon enrollment to assess individual needs of parents and children. We offer Incredible Years parenting classes on-site free-of-charge throughout the year through a partnership with Morrison Child & Family Services.

The socio-economic and racial diversity of our community is reflected in our parents, children, and staff; it is one of our greatest strengths. By providing children the daily opportunity to learn from, make, and play with friends and adults from diverse backgrounds, we are helping children develop the important interpersonal and multicultural skills they will need to be successful in a diverse society.

We strive to keep our services available and affordable to all families through a competitive tuition, and we accept tuition reimbursements from the Oregon Department of Human Services. Our infant, wobbler, and toddler programs serve children ages 6-weeks through 2½-years old. Our junior and preschool programs serve children ages 2½-years through 5-years old.

Peninsula Children’s Center is a “Eco-Healthy Childcare” as certified by Oregon Environmental Council . This certification indicates our commitment to reducing a child’s exposure to toxics and other environmental health hazards.
