Peninsula welcomes Christopher Tormey as our new Head Teacher in Preschool 1. Christopher has a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and he is certified in Washington as an elementary school teacher. He has over four year’s experience teaching preschool-aged children at Head Start and at the Children’s Relief Nursery. His former supervisors speak very highly of the quality of his work with children and his ability to connect with families. The respectful, skilled, caring approach with children he displayed during his working interview and now in his first week as the Head Teacher supports this view. Here are a few initial things Chris wants you to know about him:

My philosophy is student-centered. I believe in order to assist students in their process of learning, focus should be placed on a student’s individual needs. I went to middle school, high school, and college in Boston, then moved to Seattle for 9 years and have been in Portland for almost 5 years. I really love the NW and enjoy riding my bike, hiking, movies, cooking, and I am working on learning Spanish.

Please join us in welcoming Chris to Peninsula!

Please call 503-280-0534, ext. 32, for voice mail information or watch Channels 2, 6, 8, or 12 for late opening or closure information.

Early Childhood Program

When inclement weather is expected on the morning of a school day, every attempt will be made to decide about closures and schedule changes the evening before. For an unexpected or a less definite weather situation, every attempt is made to make a decision as early as possible. Our goal is to make the most appropriate decision for our students and staff based on all available information. We will collect weather forecasts and information from a range of reliable sources and will confer with staff members who live in various parts of the metropolitan area.

We also will open late if conditions warrant and follow our regular schedule for the remainder of the day. Doing this will allow our classes to take place in an abbreviated form.

If weather conditions require early dismissal we will contact you by phone, e-mail and this website. Please make sure your emergency form always has current information so that we can get in touch with you in case of this or any other urgent news.

Before and After School Program

School-age programs will be closed when Portland Public Schools are closed. In the event of early dismissal, our after-school program will not open.

If weather conditions require early dismissal from after care we will contact you by phone, e-mail and this website. Please make sure your emergency form always has current information so that we can get in touch with you in case of this or any other urgent news.
