Curriculum

curriculum_resizedOur curriculum is based on the whole child: his/her social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development. We see each child as a unique individual and plan our programs according to the child’s strengths, needs, interests and developmental skills. We monitor and track milestones in each child’s development using online software called Galileo and provide regular reports to parents.

Peninsula focuses on early literacy through our partnership with Multnomah County Library’s Raising A Reader program, which sends books home with children to read with their families. To support literacy development in the home, Peninsula also has a monthly storytime for parents and children which is led by a Multnomah County Librarian. Daily reading with teachers, Foster Grandmothers, and volunteers is a cornerstone of our program.

Research repeatedly and increasingly shows that early experiences with the arts supports the developmental, intellectual and social growth of children. Peninsula brings music, songs, rhythm and dance through weekly on-site music classes provided by one of our Baby Boomer Volunteers. The James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation is sponsoring a four week artist in residence from the Children’s Museum in Spring 2009.
